So much of Scripture is misinterpreted today because of a lack of understanding of covenant. This puts us at an immediate deficit because covenant is the means by which God has and does relate to mankind. Further, God’s purposes are misrepresented as the Church labors under a faulty concept of what it means to be the “Israel of God” (Rom. 9:6). If we fail to distinguish between the spiritual nature of God’s covenant “Israel” and the political nation of Israel, our true identity as God’s chosen people will never be known, and we will sacrifice the inheritance that is ours as His “special treasure” (Ex. 19:5).
