In Matthew 19, we find the story of a rich, young ruler wanting to know the secret of inheriting eternal life. exposing the pride of believing it is our own efforts that make us deserving. So, Jesus pointed him back to the law of Moses because whenever we think it is our own efforts that warrant reward, we fall from grace and Jesus has no choice but to point back to the Law. And though the rich man believed he had kept the law, Jesus pointed out his failure. The young man had made money his god; a god with whom he would not part. If only the young ruler had been willing to turn from his dependence upon self and his attachment to his material possessions, he could have received what Jesus was offering: a life of freedom from enslavement to self-sufficiency and the endless prosperity which grace freely offers. But we must get rid of our own agenda and humbly receive His word. Listen as Pastor Davis expounds upon this story. You have
