As a teacher, over the years I’ve developed a routine for getting ready for a new school year. I have to get my room in order, organize materials for the first few days, send off for copies of what I’ll need to pass out, etc. Real life is not like the movies, where the teacher strolls in to a classroom of students already seated and casually puts down a briefcase and begins teaching. At least, that’s not my real life. I start working a couple of weeks before contracted work days begin.
Editor’s Note: In all of our ministries we believe that God desires to reveal Himself to His people and create personal relationships, regardless of age. In this article, some of the children from our Kingdom Kids ministry (ages 3-2nd grade) share what God is revealing to them.
Researchers over the last several years have been studying the impact of the order of the stages of physical development in children. One local television station recently did a story highlighting the results of this research that indicate the time an infant spends on his/her stomach and later crawling will affect muscles and motor skills, which a few years later will impact reading and writing skills. Children who did not spend much time on their stomachs or skipped crawling and went straight to walking tended to have more difficulty with reading and writing once they were in school. Rushing through or skipping stages of development had a long-term effect.
