Jon Clark grew up in a Christian home in the Springfield area and graduated from Republic High School. Although he attended church all his life, he didn’t fully surrender to the Lordship of Christ until he was 17. Once he totally gave his heart to the Lord, he made a true commitment to serve in the church. Jon was a founding member of Abundant Life Ministries in 1983. In 1984, Jon married his high school sweetheart Christa, and at that same time, believed the Lord was leading him to pursue a career in medicine. After receiving his B.S. in Biology at Missouri State University in the spring of 1988, he and Christa moved to Columbia, Missouri, for him to attend medical school.
Ordained as elders in the fall of 1988, Jon and Christa started a home church that was a branch of Abundant Life Church there in Columbia. They had their first of three children while in Columbia, then in 1992 after receiving his medical degree, they returned to Springfield, where Jon trained at the Cox Family Medicine Residency. In 1995, he purchased a well-established medical clinic, which he still owns and operates today. Jon has led Abundant Life’s men’s ministry, worship music groups, church cleaning teams, etc., and many people have been healed and blessed by his prescriptions of medicine, faith, and hope.
When Pastor Ben Davis left the youth ministry to serve as senior pastor in 2009, Abundant Life Church ordained Jon to serve as the youth pastor. His love for God’s people is evident in the many ways he serves.
Christa (Johnson) Clark grew up on a farm west of Republic, Missouri, in a loving Christian home. At the young age of 10, she asked Jesus to be her Lord and Savior. During her senior year of high school, she started attending Republic Assembly of God with longtime friend Jon Clark and began to experience the transforming power of God’s truth and love. When some from Republic Assembly started a second church in Springfield in the spring of 1983, Christa believed she was to actively serve in this new venture—Abundant Life Ministries.
During her college years at Missouri State University, Christa worked in radio and television and then married Jon in 1984. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Media in 1988, and days later she and Jon moved to Columbia, Missouri, for him to attend medical school. In 1992 after working four years as an assistant editor for the University of Missouri and co-leading a home church, she returned to Springfield with Jon and their one-year-old child Rebekah. Christa enjoyed her job of being a stay-at-home mom, and as the years clicked away, two more children blessed the Clark home—Tim in 1993 and Emma in 1997.
Since 1983, Christa has loved serving in numerous ministries—church cleaning, nursery, women’s ministry, children’s choir, worship music, home Bible studies, etc. In the fall of 2000, Abundant Life started producing a monthly magazine called Present Truth, and she served as the editor. In 2009, Christa and Jon became the youth leaders of ALC’s well-established youth group. As she helps the kids grow into men and women of God, they help her grow in the Lord as well! Abundant Life officially ordained her as an associate pastor in 2012.
